Hello from my very first from my desk in January. I hope you all had a wonderful time in holidays. Like many of us we get that feeling of making a fresh start in the New year.
So I decided to a take a few short courses to get motivated. I am really interested in expanding my illustration skills and business. I decided to take the build a freelance illustration business course through
This course really is about finding your style , getting your workout there and making connections with fellow artists and art directors to find commissions.
It is a short self study course and has great Facebook group to discuss all things to do with illustration.
The course is taught by the great illustrators Salli and Nate who founded the two websites They draw and cook and They draw and travel. Both sites are creative playgrounds.
I wanted to tell you about creative playgrounds. As a creative it is so important to have playtime to get those fresh ideas flowing. Salli and Nate are great supporters of Creative playgrounds. I didn’t realise I have been playing in these for a while. Lilla Rogers Bootcamp ,Illustration Friday or Spoonflower.
What is a creative playground you make ask? It’s a place where a group of supportive artist come together and you create artwork that is just for you. There is a brief but it’s not under the pressure of a paid commission. Having a topic gives you structure and you are not alone sharing your experience with other artists. Many artists talk about how this self motivated artwork has landed work. If you are interested in learning more watch Salli and Nate's video and how artists found play led to some fun work and commissions here.
Have a wonderful weekend of play X
