One of the best things about living here in Älmhult, Sweden is just being able to walk over to the IKEA museum and enjoy the exhibitions that are on show. Last Saturday was the grand opening of Textile playground. This exhibition is a colourful display of classic IKEA patterns and include smart textiles of the future. It's also an interactive exhibition where you create your own patterns and upload them onto the web gallery. You can also take part sewing up a tote bag cushion or apron in your favourite IKEA textiles. You can also time travel through the IKEA pattern archive as all the patterns are sewn up in a long banner and part of the display in the exhibition. If you love patterns , IKEA textiles and play this exhibition is for you.
Älmhult. The exhibition runs from 3 June-14 January. https://ikeamuseum.com/en/

Hello so it's been a few weeks since I posted on my blog. So life has been busy here in Sweden looking for a new home and getting paperwork and ID cards in order. As a family we have been enjoying our new life in Sweden and the nature that surrounds us and visiting the local lake. I also managed a to travel to Copenhagen again and take Rocket to the Zoo which was a special experience. I also found a fantastic art store VIKING 1914 and stocked up on supplies. Not that I have had much time to enjoy them. With lots of sorting out to do. Here are some more sketchbook peeks about my life in Sweden for you to enjoy.
Hello more peeks from sketch book diary of my new life in Sweden and learning the language. A week ago I joined the Swedish system and applied for my personal number. In Sweden you can't do anything without this special number. So waiting to receive it and have an adventure to get my ID card. It truly felt official now that I am living in Sweden.
I am enjoying food shopping in Sweden with lots of familiar food from my childhood that are quite similar to Danish food. I do need to use google translate just to make sure I know I am buying the right thing and understanding the cooking instructions. A great way to understand everyday life in Sweden.
It is always exciting tor receive your first mail in a new country and have that connection with your old home. Feels official that your living in a new home.
Rocket experienced his first birthday party in Sweden. One of his classmates invited him and he had a fantastic time.
So Sunday is an official day to celebrate spring time in Sweden. There are lots of night time celebrations and fireworks. We missed this as we didn't quite get our act together. But it was like mother nature switched on spring in Sweden. It's been warmer with blues skies everyday. Flowers and leaves popping out all over the place. I can't wait to see what summer will be like here.
May Day was also a bank holiday here in Sweden. We met a work colleague from my husband's work and discovered a nature trail was beautiful. I tried out an Ikea bike. Let's just say I have some practice to do before I go on the road. : ).
So Monday was parcel day. I am getting to know the local post lady here in our small town. In your apartment you have your own mail box and you collect parcels from the post office. It's simple compared to London. Although I had to guess where the ticket machine for the queue was. The ticket machine is very important here you have to use it everywhere for everything o get served.
More ticket machines at the bank it's official I have a Swedish bank account now so I really feel like I am living her now.
Yesterday Rocket had his first Swedish birthday. I did suffer Mum guilt for not having a birthday party for him but we have been more than busy the past few weeks. He had a lovely time at school and his classmates wished him a happy birthday in Swedish.
We are taking him to Copenhagen this weekend to spoil hime and take him to some things he wanted to see. I am excited to be going to Copenhagen and also see some of my Danish family.
Have a lovely weekend more adventures next week...
